Welcome To The Women's Centre

We're a community organisation which has been operating since 1986 providing a wealth of information and services in a safe, supportive, affirming, women-only environment. We work with and for the well-being of all women by assisting, supporting and encouraging them to make informed choices in their lives. The Centre is committed to a future based on Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

*Rainbow is an umbrella term used in this survey to include all diverse identities and sexualities.

The survey was developed by the Women’s Centre with funding from the Rule Foundation and the Tindall Foundation.

All answers given are anonymous and confidential and it will take approximately 5 minutes to complete.  Please only take part in this survey if you are resident in Canterbury.

We really appreciate people taking the time to answer the survey. The link will close on 10th December.

Donations Needed  - The Women’s Centre still needs your help.

We are deeply grateful for all the support that we have received since we faced a funding crisis in March.  The financial and non-financial support have touched us greatly.  Though we are not in financial crisis at the moment we still have to be extremely careful, as no funding is guaranteed, and the generous donations we received are mostly one-off gifts.  So please keep all the goodness coming...

As a not for profit, charitable organisation, the Women's Centre relies on grants, funding bodies and donations.  The bulk of our work is carried out by volunteers with just two paid positions supporting this work.  We run a very economic ship on the smell of an oily rag.

What do we do? The following endorsements speak for themselves...

“From the moment I entered the Women’s Centre I felt safe. I just don’t know where I would be if I had not sought this help.” (Counselling client)

“Coming to the Women’s Centre was a decision that has changed my life.  Each week as I leave the Women’s Centre I feel gratitude and think how lucky our broken city is to have such a valuable resource.” (Counselling client)

“The Women’s Centre has a vitally important role into the wellbeing of our city, especially at this time of extra stress.  Women are the backbone of our families.  If women do well, their partners do well and their children do well.  Women cannot do well without support.  The Women’s Centre has always provided this support to women who need it.  They have done it professionally, compassionately and with great forethought for the last 30 years.  I have no hesitation in referring women to the Centre and have always had excellent feedback.”
(Dr Sue Bagshaw, Senior Medical Officer 298 Youth Health)
